Sometimes when I’m writing a piece of music, if I write it on guitar, I’ll later add in bass an other instruments, and by the time I’m done, the guitar isn’t nearly as prominent as I originally intended. It adds tone or color, and I feel like the verses of this song is a pretty good example of that.
I’m also very happy with the production on this song. I don’t know what I did differently. Maybe I accidentally stumbled across a good mix. Maybe I’m actually learning how to make music sound good. I don’t know, but I like how this song sounds.
And for the title, I just had that phrase stuck in my head around the time I was finishing this song, and when I found the image, it was a perfect match.
I wrote and recorded this song in Des Moines in September of 2023. I played all the guitar and bass and some keys, and I programmed some keys and drums as well. The cover art is taken from Annie Spratt on Unsplash.
