Last weekend I started messing around on guitar, trying to come up with something simple. And after about five minutes, I had most of the parts to this song put together. I started laying down scratch guitar parts and programmed some basic drums. After practicing the song a bit, I re-wrote the drums, added some organ, recorded the bass, then laid down the final guitar tracks. After fiddling with the mixing and mastering a bit, it feels like I’m at the stopping point.
One week, from conception to final product.
One thing that is difficult for an instrumental project is coming up with a title. This one came from the artwork. Until the artwork was picked, I knew the song only as a generic working title. But when I saw that bison photo, I thought you’d probably want to move a little bit faster to get out of there.
Again I used my Gibson SG and Ibanez Soundgear bass to record all the guitar and bass tracks. I programmed all the drums myself, as well as the organ parts. It was all done at the South Side studio in Des Moines. The photo used for the album art was taken by Yann Allegre on Unsplash.
